A short drive will take you out of the lovely Somerset countryside into the rolling Devon countryside, with the Blackdown hills, moors, pretty villages and beaches beyond. Alternatively head into Dorset towards the World Heritage Coast. See the dramatic cliffs from the coastal footpath, fossil hunt on the beach, or just explore.

But why head out of Somerset? There is so much to do close by! Local attractions include Forde Abbey and Gardens, Barrington Court, Montecute House, Perry's Cider Mill and Cricket St. Thomas Wildlife Park.

The towns of Taunton, Yeovil and Chard are all close by if you want to shop. If you like Horse Racing then the courses at Taunton, Wincanton and Exeter are all within easy reach.

Abbotsford House is an ideal stop over on those long trips to Cornwall being halfway between West Cornwall and the South East of England. We are situated 1 mile from the A303 and 8 miles from the M5.

Directions from the A303

If you are traveling west on the A303 from London and the South East, leave the A303 at the western end of the Ilminster Bypass, marked Southfield Roundabout. Take the third exit signposted as A358 and Chard. After about ¾ of a mile turn right towards Broadway and Horton. After 400 Yards turn right into Suggs Lane, signposted Broadway Surgery. Abbotsford House is the second house on the right, by the black and white railings.

Directions from the M5

If you are travelling south on the M5 from Bristol and the Midlands, leave the M5 at Junction 25 (Taunton) and take the A358 towards Chard and Ilminster. After 6 miles you will reach the Southfield Roundabout. Take the fourth exit signposted as A358 and Chard. After about ¾ of a mile turn right towards Broadway and Horton. After 400 Yards turn right into Suggs Lane, signposted Broadway Surgery. Abbotsford House is the second house on the right, by the black and white railings.
